about

Inspired by the Better Oblivion Community Center recordings. Written and recorded during FAWM in 2022 as the album was being recorded. This song was tremendously elevated the moment Katie sang on it. Now that her voice is there, I seriously can’t hear it any other way. You can find her at katiedwyer.com.

I grew up in the church and much of my life revolved around the teaching of the Bible and the person of Jesus. Though I no longer attend church, I still find the idea of Jesus and many of his teachings to be something to aspire to. Maybe he DID know what he was talking about.

lyrics

Sometimes I think Jesus knew what he was talking about
That one story ‘bout the demons who haunted a house
The owner ran ‘em off, wasn’t long till they all came back
They brought more friends, I guess opposites attract

And I know that I’m not the only one
That has questions that go all the way down
To the center of every foundation
The darkest corners of every town

And like my feelings that I push down with distractions and pills
They seem to come back no matter how much I’ve filled
And I can’t stop crying and I won’t stop asking you why
Cuz the questions keep coming so I guess that I gotta try

And I know that I’m not the only one
That has questions that go all the way down
To the center of every foundation
The darkest corners of every town

And if Jesus knew something he knew that life could be short
(Life could be short)
The time we all have here, death could be at our door
(Be at our door)
Maybe this heaven, his will, thy kingdom come
(Thy kingdom come)
Is here on this earth and we choose or we’re wasted and dumb
(Wasted and dumb)

And I know that I’m not the only one
That has questions that go all the way down
To the center of every foundation
To the darkest corners of this town
